Name That Caption Contest
Recently I decided to give away a copy of my upcoming book to the person that could come closest to guessing the initial price of a base model iPad. I had enough fun administering that contest that I have decided to do another one. This one will run for a little longer than just a few hours. In fact, it is going to run for one month in total with a few rounds of voting. With the book due to be released in March, I want to spend some time having fun leading up to the release.
At the top of this page is a banner. All you need to do is provide a caption to the photo. The person who provides the best caption will win a copy of my book and I will figure out a way to incorporate your caption into the main page. There is only one official way to enter, but you can enter as often as you want.
Post a blog entry that links back to this one, put your caption into that entry, and leave a comment to this post.
The entries close on Friday, February 12th. That weekend I will review the entries and select my favorites. Those entries will then be presented for everyone to vote during the next ten days or so. And at the end of the month I will select the winner from the top three captions that were voted on by yourselves.
If you want to participate but do not have a blog the you can either (1) leave a comment on someone else’s blog and link back to here or (2) you can drop me an email with your caption. And if you can fit it into less than 140 characters you can even tweet me your caption. But those entries are not official (which means they could be easily overlooked), so your best bet is the blog entry and the link.
I look forward to reading the captions you will think up. Good luck!

My take on it.

You are surviving because you are at a company with so much red tape that they’ll never fire you … short of taking a dump on your bosses desk.
You essentially do nothing that adds any value, but make yourself seem busy by making up things to do, interfering with people who can actually solve business problems, and by being irritating. It’s a terrific strategy for ‘surviving’, and it explains why you’ve been passed up for promotion time and time again.

Coos – uh, have you seen the layoffs going around lately? It’s hard to avoid getting laid off even if you’re the hardest worker in the shop. Strategies like the one you described stopped working after the dot-com crash, at least at the companies Tom and I work at.
